10 Year Anniversary of Trumpf L3040 Installation

10 years ago Laser-Fab began to offer customers more possibilities and faster cutting speeds.

This year Laser-Fab will celebrate 10 years since installing our second sheet laser.  Before 2012, Laser-Fab only had one sheet laser, a Trumpf 3030, 4000 Watt, 60″ x 120″ laser. But with the installation of the Trumpf L3040, 6000 Watt, 80″ x 160″ laser table we could process 6 foot wide sheets and/or 12 foot long sheets.  This capacity opened the door to meet more needs of our current customers and made it possible to provide this service to new customers.

The 6000 Watt Resonator gave us the capability to cut thicker materials in less time.  The bigger power supply gave us the ability to cut up to 1″ mild steel, 3/4″ stainless steel, and 1/2″ aluminum.  This was also done at faster speeds and higher quality, providing our customers with a better product.

Roto-Las Attachment which started our customers’ tube laser journey

While the new L3040, with a bigger sheet capacity, was expanding our customers’ ability to produce bigger parts and thicker parts, the L3040 also started our capability to offer our customers tube and structural processing. A Roto-Las attachment is able to hold closed profiles, such as round tube, square tube, and rectangular tube.  Customers were now able to order accurate ways of cutting complicated parts, such as truck and trailer bumpers, coped pipe manifolds, and HSS parts for skid frames.  These are only a few examples, but many HSS, Pipe, and Tube parts were cut with the L3040’s Roto-Las attachment because it was the first one of its kind in the region.  Once we saw the abilities and the demands for this service, we pursued the option of purchasing a stand-alone Tube Laser, which could give us even more capabilities and capacities.  But we’ll save that story for next time . . .

What does the L3040 mean to our customers?

With the ability to cut 6’x12′ sheets of material, we could now offer our customers larger and thicker parts, while still maintaining precision and accuracy.  We were also able to start offering tube processing, which opened up a lot of design possibilities for many different products and industries.   Today we are still able to offer these services, along with other bending and fabricating services.
